An important new memorial project is taking shape in Shawnee Township. And you can be an important part of it. In the timeline of history, there are few dates with more meaning to Americans than Sept. 11, 2001, the day terrorists killed 2,986 innocent people at the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center, at the Pentagon, and in Shanksville, Pennsylvania. As time marches forward, the events and consequences of that day cannot be allowed to fade into obscurity. This is a task that we will address with a new and significant educational project and monument to heroes, heroism, and patriotism. In addition to the imposing structure itself, we will work with school systems to keep the facts of 9/11 alive for students who, today, probably were not even born in 2001. A group of citizens and community leaders have formed the Shawnee Township 911 Memorial Foundation to raise awareness of 9/11 topics and raise funds for the monument and education projects. See the website at shawneetwp911memorial.org for more information about how you can contribute, participate, and support this worthy endeavor. “One of the worst days in America’s history saw some of the bravest acts in Americans’ history. We’ll always honor the heroes of 9/11. And here at this hallowed place, we pledge that we will never forget their sacrifice.” —President George W. Bush at the Pentagon in 2008

With a budget of $400,000, the Allen County 9/11 memorial will be one of the most significant in the state of ohio.
