A total of 2,977 innocent victims were killed on September 11, 2001 when nineteen men hijacked four airplanes in an attack coordinated by the terrorist group, al Qaeda. American Airlines Flight 11 and United Airlines Flight 175 were flown into the twin towers of New York’s World Trade Center, killing 2,753 people. 184 victims were killed when American Airlines Flight 77 was crashed into the Pentagon. Another 40 people died when United Airlines Flight 93 crashed into a field near Shanksville, PA after passengers and crew attempted to take control of the plane back from the hijackers.
